russian dictator vladimir putin said on Tuesday that an unprecedented drone attack on moscow at dawn was a response to a russian strike on Ukraine's military intelligence headquarters.
"We have already raised the issue of the possibility of strikes on decision-making centers. The Ukrainian military intelligence headquarters, which was attacked two or three days ago, is one of them," putin said on television.
"In response, the Kyiv regime chose a different path" by attacking moscow, he added, saying that moscow's air defense system worked "normally," "although there is still work to be done."
putin believes that Ukraine is "provoking" russia to "mirror actions" in this way. "We will see what to do with this," he said.
Since the fall of 2022, russia has been regularly striking Ukrainian cities with Iranian-made drones. On May 28, Kyiv alone was attacked by 54 attack drones simultaneously.
In the morning, Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, commented on the drone attack on moscow: "All the people who believe that they can play a one-sided game, that they can destroy another sovereign state with absolute impunity... After 15 months, haven't they realized that they will not have another year in 2014? No signing of the dividing line... Each of them will be held fully accountable."
putin tried to appear calm when commenting on the drone attack on moscow, which the russian Defense Ministry claimed involved eight drones, three of which crashed into high-rise residential buildings without causing significant damage.
He explained why three high-rise buildings were damaged by drones.
"We faced the same problems at the Hmeymim airfield in Syria. It is simply impossible to compare the territory of our Hmeymim airbase and moscow, a huge European metropolis," putin added. – "It is clear what needs to be done to strengthen air defense in the capital. We will do it."
moscow began installing additional air defense systems in January. Pro-war bloggers then predicted that the russian capital might be attacked by drones.
At the same time, Kyiv did not claim responsibility for either the first or the second drone attack on moscow.
