The purpose of the congress is to popularize science and present the achievements of Polish scientists.

Professor Ryszard Golovnicki said that from a country that was backward before the war in terms of horticulture, Poland has now become a world power, in particular in the cultivation of apples.

"Just go to the Gruecko-Warecki district. This is the largest orchard in Europe. We are the third largest apple grower in the world after the United States and China. But our producers say that in 3-4 years we will have more apple production than the US. So, as you can see, we have enough fruits and vegetables, and they are the cheapest in Europe," the scientist emphasized.

Some 40-30 years ago, some fruits and vegetables were rare on the tables, and today the industry is already thinking about growing new species, he added.

During the Science for Society Congress, exhibitions of scientific institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, presentations of achievements and implementation of research institutes and institutes of the Lukasiewicz Research Network and the Copernicus Science Center are held.
