Throughout May, russia launched over 300 Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones at Ukraine – British intelligence
Ukraine eliminated at least 90% of the enemy UAVs, primarily using its older and cheaper air defence weapons

Over the course of May 2023, russia launched over 300 Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones at Ukraine. To date, this is the most intensive use of this weaponry.
This was reported by British intelligence.
"russia is probably launching so many OWA-UAVs in an attempt to force Ukraine to fire stocks of valuable, advanced air defence missiles," the report states.
However, as noted, it is hard to say that russia has been particularly successful: Ukraine has neutralised at least 90% of the enemy UAVs, primarily using its older and cheaper air defence weaponry and electronic warfare means.
In the view of the intelligence community, russia is probably also trying to detect and strike at Ukrainian forces far behind the front line.
"However, russia remains very ineffective at hitting such dynamic targets at range because of its poor targeting processes," adds the intelligence agency.
