UPDATED: russians have sabotaged Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station

UPDATED at 12:12 p.m.:

According to Shmyhal, there are currently no civilian casualties. The government continues to work on organising evacuation, providing drinking water for the population and so on. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources is assessing the environmental consequences.

UPDATED at 10:30 a.m.:

Roman Mrochko, Head of the Kherson Oblast State Administration, reports that the areas of Hydropark and Naftogavan are already flooded. Evacuation continues from 3 collection points on Ostriv microdistrict. The less mobile and bedridden citizens are being taken to hospitals.

UPDATED at 09:27 a.m.:

Ukrhydroenergo announced that as a result of the internal demolition of the machine room, Kakhovka HPP has been completely destroyed and is not subject to restoration.

It is expected that the reservoir will fully discharge over the next 4 days. According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, this threatens flooding for 80 settlements.

UPDATED at 08:34 a.m.:

Energoatom explains that the dam sabotage could have negative consequences for Zaporizhzhia NPP, however, the situation is under control.

NNEGC reminds that water from the Kakhovka reservoir is necessary for the power plant to receive coolant for the turbine condensers and safety systems of the ZNPP.

Currently, the plant's cooling pond is filled: as of 8:00 a.m., the water level was 16.6 metres, and this was enough for the needs of the station.

UPDATED at 08:30 a.m.:

Prokudin emphasises that the water has already covered half the distance. A critical level in the Dnipro is expected around 11:00 a.m.

Flooding is currently observed in the Korabel district in Kherson, however there is no critical situation – the district has been de-energised. The Head of the Regional State Administration Mrochko adds that gas supply will also be turned off in a few hours.

The russian occupation forces have sabotaged the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station.

This is reported by the Operational Command South.

The scale of destruction, speed and volumes of water, and likely flooding areas are being clarified.

All services are working. The situation is being monitored.

As reported by Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Oblast State Administration, the water will reach a critical level in 5 hours, and evacuation from potential flood areas has started. He confirmed that the russians had sabotaged the Kakhovka HPP and urged people to leave the dangerous area as quickly as possible.

Units of the National Police and the State Emergency Service have been put on alert to notify and evacuate civilians from potential flood zones on the right bank of the Dnipro, namely: the villages of Mykolaivka, Olhivka, Liovo, Tiahynka, Poniativka, Ivanivka, Tokarivka, Prydniprovske, Sadove and part of the city of Kherson – the island of Korabel.
