The EU has provided emergency assistance due to a power deficit in the Ukrainian energy system – Ukrenergo

On the evening of 7 May, the company Ukrenergo was forced to activate emergency power supply from the EU to ensure the evening peak consumption. Despite the isolation of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant from the Ukrainian power system, its destruction by the occupiers affected the operation of other power stations.

This was announced by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Head of the Ukrenergo board.

"Together with Ukrhydroenergo, we have reviewed the operation modes of hydroelectric power stations in such a way as to mitigate the effects of the flood that is now occurring in the south of Ukraine. Therefore, certain effects from the undermining of the Kakhovka HPP dam do exist on the operation of other hydroelectric power stations," he said.

In the long-term perspective, namely after the de-occupation of Zaporizhzhia, the destruction of the dam, the change in the operating mode of the Dnieper cascade will negatively impact the prospects for the launch of Zaporizhzhia nuclear and thermal power stations, he added.

In addition to this, the board chairman assures that there would be no power cuts in the near future. According to him, Ukrenergo is implementing a plan to restore generating capacities that will be needed during the autumn-winter period.
