From January to May, the JSC Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) repaired a third of the planned track length – 400 km, according to the company's press service.

"While restoring the infrastructure destroyed by the enemy, Ukrzaliznytsia continues to carry out track repairs. Thus, in the first five months of 2023, railway workers have already repaired more than 400 km of tracks. Particularly active works are being carried out in Lviv, Kyiv, and Odesa oblasts," the message states.

From January to May this year, medium repairs were carried out on 227.7 km of tracks, and major repairs on 175.8 km. Major repairs have been completed on the Svaliava–Vovchyi section and at the Hlynna-Navaria station in Lviv Oblast, as well as on the Motovylivka–Vasylkiv section near the capital. Repairs of tracks on the sections Liuboml–Matseiv in Lviv Oblast, Vilnohirsk–Erastivka in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, and Podilsk–Chubivka in Odesa Oblast are actively ongoing. Work on these routes is expected to be completed in June-July, the report notes.

UZ plans to increase repairs by 15.8% in 2023 compared to last year's figures, reaching 1,300 km. Of the 1,094 km repaired in 2022, medium repairs were carried out on 625.1 km of tracks, and major repairs on 468.9 km.

"Despite the war, we have to maintain the infrastructure in a proper condition and make up for overdue repairs as much as possible. This primarily concerns safety and the speed of passenger and cargo delivery. This year, we plan to repair a total of 1,300 km of tracks using various types of repairs. We've already completed a third," the press service quoted Yevhen Liashchenko, Head of the UZ Board, as saying.

According to him, UZ is ready to restore the infrastructure in areas that will be de-occupied following the advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

UZ reminded that in April 2023, they completed the major restoration of the bridge over the Irpin River in Kyiv Oblast, which was destroyed by the enemy in March of the previous year.
