US presidential candidate Michael Pence unexpectedly visits Ukraine and meets with Zelenskiy
He supports providing the Ukrainian military with all the necessary weapons until victory
Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who is currently running for the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election, made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Thursday to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

He visited Moshchun, Bucha, and Irpin in the Kyiv region, which were liberated from Russian occupation.
"As President Zelensk³y and his team have told me, the Ukrainian military is making steady progress, and I assured him that, for our part, we will continue to do everything we can to provide the Ukrainian military with the support it needs until they defeat the Russians and restore their country's sovereignty," Pence said.
"And I have every confidence that the day will come when Ukraine's sovereignty will be restored. Their territorial integrity will be restored. I believe that it is not only in the interest of the people of Ukraine, but also in the national interest of the United States and the free world that the Ukrainian military win," he added.
"We need to give the Ukrainian military everything they need to fight back and defeat Russian aggression. Because it will send a message to Russia, China, and any other country in the world that would try to redraw international borders by force that the free world will not accept that, the free world will stand together for freedom," Pence said.
For his part, Volodymyr Zelensk³y thanked the United States for the recent defense assistance packages of $2.1 billion and $500 million, allocated on June 6 and June 27, respectively, and emphasized the unprecedented total amount of support provided, which has reached $43.1 billion since February last year.
Zelensk³y emphasized the priority importance of strengthening defense assistance to Ukraine from partners, including artillery and long-range weapons. The Head of State emphasized the importance of training Ukrainian pilots as soon as possible and providing Ukraine with F-16 combat aircraft.
The President shared his expectations from the NATO Summit in Vilnius. He stated that the partners should demonstrate determination and provide Ukraine with certainty regarding its future membership in the Alliance.
The former US vice president is fighting with his former boss, ex-President Donald Trump, for the Republican presidential nomination. Pence is behind Trump by more than 30 points, according to most polls, Reuters reports.
