Ukrainian pilots will begin training on F-16 fighters in Denmark in August. And they will go to Romania in 2024, said Ray Piselli, vice president of international relations at Lockheed Martin, the company that produces the F-16.

Source. This was reported by Defense Romania.

He clarified that the exercises will take place at the Danish Skridstrup air base. Romania will organize a training center at Borca Air Base 86. The country will provide its infrastructure, the Netherlands will provide F-16 aircraft, and Lockheed Martin, through its contractor Draken International, will train pilots, the head of the company said.

It is noted that the American company Draken International has acquired 12 fighters from the Norwegian Air Force and has already posted vacancies for F-16 instructor pilots.

According to Ray Piselli, the Ukrainian military will train in Romania until the end of 2024.

Piselli noted that initially, the training will consist of testing and selection of Ukrainian personnel, language learning, and then theoretical and practical training.

He added that the Netherlands and Denmark are at the forefront of developing the training model.

"To begin with, we plan to train two teams. In total, there are 10 to 12 pilots and, in addition, support staff to maintain the aircraft. Between 30 and 40 technicians will be trained," said the Danish military.

It is not yet known how long it will take to retrain pilots from MiG fighters to F-16 fighters.

"It depends on the qualifications of the pilots, both in terms of fighter jet experience and how well they speak English," emphasized General Flemming Lentfer, Commander-in-Chief of the Danish Army.

Background. As a reminder, the US has allowed EU countries to start training Ukrainian pilots on F-16s. According to the White House adviser, all the necessary tools will be provided to start the training.
