Ukraine's state budget may be revised again this year – Marchenko

Ukraine's state budget may be revised again this year due to the risk that all security and defence expenditures may not be covered.

This was reported by Ukraine's Minister of Finance, Serhiy Marchenko, in an interview with Ekonomichna Pravda.

"We have currently planned the budget accurately until the end of the year. However, the issue is that urgent needs arise daily. I do not rule out that the budget will have to be revised," he said. The Minister emphasised that the security and defence sector's budget was the highest risk area. He stated that he could not speak to what additional expenditure needs might arise in these sectors.

Marchenko reminded that $42.4 billion of international funding for the state budget was planned for this year. He clarified that almost $24 billion had already been allocated.

Moreover, he pointed out that next year's external funding volumes should be no less than this year's. "I have no reason to believe that the security and defence sector's budget should be lower," the minister noted.

Recall that on 21 March, the Verkhovna Rada made changes to the 2023 State Budget, providing an additional 518 billion hryvnia for defence.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the EU had provided Ukraine with a fifth tranche of €1.5 billion.
