Market Operator opens platform for businesses to purchase electricity at retail
The REP platform will help find suppliers with lower prices and guaranteed supply volumes
The Market Operator has developed a platform for retail electricity trading – RETAIL ENERGY PLATFORM (REP).
This was stated on the Market Operator website.
On the platform, suppliers can propose their terms and price for electricity supply, and the consumer can find a favourable offer for themselves.
According to the statement, only 0.2% of small businesses in Ukraine buy electricity using complex market algorithms: in the bilateral contracts market, the day-ahead market, the intraday and balancing markets.
"Those who are state-owned declare their intentions to purchase electricity through Prozorro. Companies from the private sector consuming up to 50,000 kWh per month contract electricity from Universal Service Providers. Those consuming from 50,000 kWh to 100,000 kWh contract with suppliers from the region where they operate their business. However, not everyone is aware that the license to supply electricity extends to the entire country, and the consumer can buy from whoever offers the lowest price, regardless of whether the production is in Lviv or Kharkiv," the statement says.
The REP platform, as envisioned by the Market Operator, will allow any business – bakeries, dairies, cafes, restaurants, medical institutions, agri-producers, banks, builders, manufacturers, etc. – to find a supplier with a lower price and guaranteed supply volumes.
"20% of the total electricity consumption in the country is purchased by suppliers on the Market Operator's platform. REP is our new IT solution for consumers to easily find their supplier. The platform allows you to quickly and free of charge find the required kilowatt-hours from suppliers – licensed participants in the electricity market," said Oleksandr Havva, CEO of PJSC Market Operator.
