Energoatom has taken another nuclear power unit out of operation for maintenance

On 2 August, another nuclear power unit went into scheduled maintenance, reducing production at nuclear power plants, which cover most of the consumption.

This was reported by the NEC Ukrenergo.

Therefore, it's essential to significantly save electricity, especially during the evening hours of maximum consumption.

"With significant consumption growth, especially during the evening hours, electricity imports can partially ensure its supply," warned the system operator.

According to the data, the highest consumption on Tuesday, 1 August, was at 9:30 p.m. and compared to Monday, it increased by 1.7%, equivalent to the power of one thermal power unit, which needs to be additionally involved to meet electricity needs. At the same time, the number of power units that can work and produce electricity is significantly limited due to a large-scale maintenance campaign, as Ukrenergo once again stated.

According to the ENTSO-E website, on Wednesday, the import of electricity from Slovakia increased by 3.2% to 3,345 MW-hours per day, coming in at 3:00 a.m., from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and during the evening hours of maximum consumption from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, mainly with a power up to 350 MW (the maximum possible for this direction). Also, as Ukrenergo notes, imports from Moldova come from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. up to 58 MW (data for this country is not displayed on ENTSO-E). Export is absent.

Ukrenergo clarified that due to military actions and other reasons, a total of 424 settlements remain de-energized. Also, due to bad weather, there are power outages in 13 populated areas of Sumy and Kirovograd oblasts.

Background. The Ministry of Energy, for its part, reported that a man died in Donetsk Oblast due to a power line breakage causing electric shock. The investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy is ongoing.

The Ministry of Energy also noted that there were emergency situations in the Ukrenergo networks yesterday – the 330 kV line in Kyiv Oblast, which partially passes through the territory of Belarus, where the damage occurred, was switched off twice. Also, due to adverse weather conditions, the 330 kV line in the Poltava region was temporarily disconnected. Power supply to consumers was not stopped.

In Kherson, the number of consumers left without power after the undermining of the Kakhovka HPP remained unchanged for several days – 11.4 thousand, but more than 3.5 thousand less than it was recorded in the first days after the tragedy.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the water level in the cooling pond of ZNPP is 16.29 m (minus 37 cm from the level in the first days after the Kakhovka reservoir spill).
