Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered to switch to round-the-clock operation the enterprises of the Almaz-Antey concern, Russia's largest manufacturer of air defense systems.
According to the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry, on Wednesday, Shoigu visited one of the concern's plants in the Tula region and "checked the progress of the state defense order," The Moscow Times reports.
Almaz-Antey CEO Yan Novikov reported to Shoigu that "potential production capacity across the entire range of products has increased many times over," and that after the increase in work shifts, the quality and speed of production "increased."
Shoigu, according to the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry, set a task to increase the production of radar detection equipment and also demanded to organize "round-the-clock operation of the enterprise, 24/7," the release of the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"Almaz-Antey unites enterprises that produce weapons for air defense and missile defense. For example, the concern is the developer of the Buk, S-300 Favorit, S-350 Vityaz, and S-400 Triumph systems. Radar systems are also used in air defense, including to detect drones.
Shoigu's demand came the day after the largest raid by Ukrainian drones on Russian territory. The day before, drones attacked Bryansk, Orel, Kaluga, Ryazan, and Moscow regions and hit a dual-purpose airfield in Pskov, destroying at least four Il-76 military transport aircraft.
