Washington plans to deploy two squadrons of F-35 fighter-bombers to RAF Lakenheath

American nuclear weapons will appear on the territory of the United Kingdom, as in the days of the Cold War. The United States plans to deploy two squadrons of F-35 fighter-bombers capable of carrying nuclear warheads to the Lakenheath Air Force Base, 110 kilometers from London.

The base will house a nuclear weapons storage facility, for which the US Congress has already allocated $50 million.
The F-35, a fifth-generation stealth aircraft, will arrive at the base by the end of this year or in 2024, a knowledgeable military source told The Telegraph. These are more modern aircraft than the F-15s deployed at Lakenheath, and their range is longer, the source said. He added that this is "critical if you're going to use them accurately to drop nuclear bombs."
Currently, about 150 US B-61 nuclear bombs are located on the territory of European NATO members – Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Turkey. The United States had nuclear weapons in Britain until 2008, when it was decided to remove them due to the reduced risk of nuclear war.
The return of nuclear warheads to British territory is a signal to Russia, said Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, former commander of Britain's chemical, biological and nuclear defense forces.
In late March, Russian dictator Putin announced the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus, which Lukashenko threatened to use in the event of an attack, for example, from Poland.
Meanwhile, Budanov said that the Belarusians had shown unwillingness to use the Russian nuclear weapons that had been moved to them. However, they have shown the highest possible result in the possession of "Point U" equipment.
