Women doctors will be registered for military service in Ukraine starting October 1
Under the new law, women liable for military service will be restricted from traveling abroad
Starting October 1, women doctors will be registered for military service in Ukraine. This was announced by the head of the press service of the Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Volodymyr Fitio. Women will undergo medical examinations to determine their fitness for military service.
However, this does not mean that all those who register at the territorial centers for recruitment and social support will go to the front, as there are currently enough medical personnel in the troops, Fitio added.
According to him, the procedure for registering women doctors is necessary to clarify the mobilization resource of medical workers.
Fedir Venislavsky, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence and the President's representative in the Rada, said that women with medical or pharmaceutical education should be registered for military service from October 1, 2023. They will acquire the status of persons liable for military service, for whom travel abroad is restricted.
Venislavsky said this in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine.
The MP said that women registered for military service will be restricted from leaving Ukraine.
"If they are registered, they acquire the status of persons liable for military service. And persons liable for military service can travel abroad in accordance with the procedure established for them, that is, if they have documents entitling them to temporary travel. If they don't have it, then they, like men, will be restricted in their right to leave," he said.
The MP also added that all other women who have military-registered specialties related to military affairs can register voluntarily from the same date.
"There are currently no plans to expand the list of specialties for women who must register," he said.
As reported, in October 2022, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on the voluntary procedure for registering women for military service. However, the law left out the provision on mandatory military registration of medical workers.
