Erdogan tries to persuade G20 leaders to agree to Russian demands to restore grain deal - Bloomberg

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is trying to convince G-20 leaders at the summit in New Delhi to agree to some of Russia's demands that the Kremlin is putting forward as conditions for the resumption of the grain deal.

The publication notes that the efforts of the Turkish president are unlikely to change the position of Ukraine's Western allies, but he will continue to make efforts to bring Moscow back to the Black Sea Initiative, from which it withdrew in July.

Erdogan is calling on world leaders to resume insurance of Russian grain and fertilizer cargoes on the Lloyd's of London insurance market, as well as to reconnect Russian banks to the SWIFT banking messaging system.

The United States and its allies have so far rejected these demands.

According to diplomats cited by Bloomberg, Russia also refuses to accept the compromises offered by the UN. They include connecting the sanctioned Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT.

Turkey, in turn, is trying to persuade the parties to find some kind of consensual solution to the problem. Among other things, the Turkish side proposes to ease some sanctions against Russia that prevent it from importing foreign agricultural machinery and spare parts.

Later, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was demanding that not only the subsidiary of "Rosselkhozbank, but also the bank as a whole. According to him, all of Russia's demands for the resumption of the grain deal are "well known and do not require interpretation."
