The European Commission did not extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain to 5 European countries after September 15

The European Commission is not extending the temporary ban on the import of Ukrainian grain to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria, provided that Ukraine takes measures to avoid a new grain surge.

Source. This is stated in the message of the European Commission, distributed on Friday in Brussels, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"The current measures expire today. Ukraine has agreed to introduce any legal measures (including, for example, an export licensing system) within 30 days to avoid grain surges. Until then, Ukraine has to take effective measures to control exports of four product groups from September 16, 2023, to prevent any market distortions in neighboring Member States. Ukraine will submit the Action Plan to the platform no later than the close of business on Monday, September 18, 2023," the statement said.

In addition, it is emphasized that the European Commission and Ukraine will monitor the situation through the Coordination Platform to "be able to respond to any unforeseen situations".

"The European Commission will refrain from imposing any restrictions as long as effective measures by Ukraine are in place and fully operational," the EC emphasizes.

The decision was based on the European Commission's analysis of data related to the impact of exports of four categories of agricultural products to the EU market.

"The EC has concluded that, thanks to the work of the Coordination Platform and the temporary measures introduced on May 2, 2023, market distortions in the five Member States bordering Ukraine have disappeared. The constructive attitude of all participants in the platform helped to solve specific problems and ensured the flow and even growth of exports to third countries outside the EU," the EC stated.

Background. Meanwhile, it became known that Bulgaria supported the resumption of Ukrainian food exports.
