Canada has imposed sanctions against 42 Russian citizens and 22 legal entities, including the Higher School of Economics (HSE), MGIMO and the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

The sanctions also include the Vzglyad newspaper, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, the Russian Geographical Society, the Valdai discussion club, and Unarmia (a patriotic movement created at the initiative of Defense Minister Shoigu).

Among the individuals sanctioned were the rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations Anatoly Torkunov, the head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov, political scientists Fyodor Lukyanov, Andrei Kortunov, Dmitry Trenin, and the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov.

Also on the sanctions list is Russian gymnast Nikita Nagorny, who heads the headquarters of the Unarmy.

In addition, during a speech in the Canadian Parliament, Trudeau promised to provide Ukraine with a tranche of 650 million Canadian dollars for three years. The money will be used to supply Leopard 2 tanks and instructors to help train Ukrainian pilots to operate F-16 fighter jets.

Canada also plans to provide the Ukrainian side with 50 armored vehicles, including those designed to transport the wounded.

Earlier it became known that Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Canada for the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on an unannounced visit. Here, he met with Justin Trudeau and addressed the Canadian parliament.
