Two ships with grain collided in the Sea of Marmara: one was coming from Ukraine, the other from Russia

Two dry cargo ships carrying grain collided in the Sea of Marmara. One was heading from Ukraine to Spain, the other from Russia to Israel.

Source. This was reported by Russian media, cited by The Insider.

The ship with Ukrainian grain has a seriously damaged side. The bulk carrier with Russian cargo was less damaged.

The vessel, which left Russia, is carrying 25,000 tons of grain, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Russian seafarers' union.

The author of the Bosphorus Observer blog, Yoruk Ishik, citing his sources, confirmed to The Insider that there was a collision. He also noted that there is nothing surprising in this and that such incidents often occur here.

"It's a very 'crowded' place, and there are a lot of small incidents like this happening all the time. It is an anchorage for ships waiting to enter the Dardanelles to pass through the Mediterranean. And there's shallow water there, and sometimes even in a stable anchorage, ships regularly collide with each other. You may ask: "How can ships just crash into each other in the sea?" The fact is that it is difficult for ships to maneuver in a tailwind. The Turkish Coast Guard, which is responsible for security, responded to the accident, and all crew members on board these vessels are safe. The vessels sustained material damage, but nothing spilled into the sea, no damage was done to the environment," he commented.

Background. As reported, the United States imposed sanctions against two vessels for transporting Russian oil at a price above the ceiling.
