US appoints infrastructure adviser for Ukraine - he will be based in Kyiv
Robert Mariner performed engineering work for the US military and has many years of experience in transportation projects
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who arrived on a visit to Ukraine, announced the appointment of a senior-level advisor who will be based in Kyiv to provide technical assistance and share best practices in implementing infrastructure projects.

"Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, I have been in close contact with my Ukrainian counterpart on the impact on global supply chains, especially port and rail infrastructure. Today I am in Kyiv to fulfill an important request to deploy an infrastructure adviser here," the minister wrote.
Buttigieg noted that the advisor will be in Kyiv to provide technical assistance in implementing projects as part of the country's reconstruction efforts.
"This is one of the many ways that the United States continues to support the people of Ukraine over the long term and ensure their connection to the world," the minister said.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation website, Robert Mariner, who has performed engineering work for the U.S. Air Force and Navy and has many years of experience in transportation projects, will serve as transportation adviser in Ukraine. Mariner previously worked as an advisor to the transportation consultant at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The U.S. Department of Transportation, in coordination with the State Department, coordinated similar advisory functions at the U.S. Embassies in Iraq and Afghanistan.
