Ukraine has created a 200-mile security strip in the Black Sea thanks to the use of maritime strike drones. Successful attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian naval facilities helped create a safe sea corridor for merchant ships.
Source. This was reported by the press service of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The destruction of Russian landing boats of the "Akula" and "Serna" class, successful attacks on the patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet "Sergei Kotov" and the reconnaissance vessel of the aggressor state "Ivan Khurs" are the work of Ukrainian military intelligence drone operators, a soldier of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine with the call sign "Thirteenth" told The New York Times.
"When we hit the target, the whole team was, of course, overwhelmed with emotions. We were shouting and congratulating each other," is how the scout described his emotions after the "Kotov" hit.
According to Thirteen, who commands the DIU's fleet of attack surface drones, the new weapon played a very important role in the war against the Russians at sea and proved its effectiveness.
"No one has the experience of using naval drones like we do. There are no teachers or textbooks. We are writing these books now," said Thirteen.
He explained that the Russians are trying to prevent maritime drone attacks in various ways, so each new mission requires improvement of both tactics and the weapon itself.
"With each new operation, both we and they [the Russians] learn," the intelligence officer noted.
The fact remains that in 2023, thanks to the use of maritime strike drones, Ukraine was able to clear a sea strip of up to 200 miles from the coast from Russians, creating a safe shipping corridor.
"They can be pushed back. Russia's dominance in the Black Sea is over," the soldier summarized.
Background. As a reminder, on December 7, the commander of the fleet of marine UAVs said that the scouts destroyed two enemy landing craft of the "shark" and "chamois" classes.
