Russian aviation activity significantly decreased after the loss of three bombers
The Russian military has reduced the number of air strikes after losing three Su-34 fighters, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat said.
On December 22, Ukraine shot down three Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers in the southern direction, the Ukrainian military reported. Russian sources confirmed the reports, but the Russian Defense Ministry did not comment on them.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia is now trying to gather information about the causes of the incident in the southern regions of the country – in particular, the military is looking for the means by which the planes were shot down.
The Ukrainian military noted that they could conduct similar operations in different directions.
Experts have speculated that the Russian planes could have been shot down by the American Patriot air defense system, but this information has not been officially confirmed.
Natalia Gumenyuk, a spokeswoman for the southern Ukrainian defense forces, also said that after the incident with the Russian bombers, Russian aviation activity in the southern direction has significantly decreased.
"This has had a significant impact. We are seeing a lull in the use of guided bombs," Gumenyuk said on Ukrainian television, UNIAN reports.
Gumenyuk added that earlier the Russian military had been actively bombing sections of the Dnipro coastline on the right and left banks with guided aerial bombs.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold a small bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnipro River occupied by the Russian army near the village of Krynky in Kherson region. It was reported that the positions of the Ukrainian military in Krynky were constantly shelled.
