Lviv businessman Hrynkevych tried to bribe one of the SBI heads for $500 thousand
The issue of serving Hrynkevych a notice of suspicion and choosing a custody as a measure of restraint is being decided
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained a Lviv businessman, one of the largest suppliers to the Ministry of Defense, who offered $500,000 to one of the heads of the SBI's Main Investigation Department.

The bribe was offered for assistance in returning property seized from companies under his control during the investigation of criminal proceedings.
According to media reports, it is a Lviv businessman and developer Ihor Hrynkevych.
The Bureau initiated criminal proceedings several months ago over fraudulent purchases of clothing and underwear for the Armed Forces. The Lviv businessman's companies won 23 tenders to supply the Ministry of Defense with clothing worth more than UAH 1.5 billion.
During the investigation, it was established that the defense orders involved companies controlled by the businessman that were previously engaged in construction and did not have adequate production, warehouse and other facilities for the manufacture and storage of clothing for the needs of the Ministry of Defense. This resulted in preliminary estimates of UAH 1.2 billion in budget losses and, accordingly, disruption of supplies.
Law enforcement officers found complete non-fulfillment of 6 contracts. Under at least 7 contracts, the companies delivered goods to the warehouses of military units only in small quantities, but received state funds for full fulfillment of their obligations.
It was also found that 8 contracts were executed with a delay of 3 to 5 months.
The analysis of customs documents revealed facts of overstatement of the value of goods supplied to the Ministry of Defense. The involvement of former officials of the Ministry of Defense, who did not take any legal action to enforce or terminate the contracts, is being checked.
According to preliminary estimates, the amount of losses may exceed UAH 1 billion.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to Hrynkevych under Part 3 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (offering, promising or giving an unlawful benefit to an official) and choosing a custody as a measure of restraint is being decided.
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to eight years.
Background. According to media reports, almost UAH 1.54 billion of the UAH 1.54 billion received from the Ministry of Defense was withdrawn and used to purchase luxury real estate (apartments, houses, office centers) and cars for members of Hrynkevych's family.
