Zelensky calls Trump's statements to end the war "overnight" "frightening" and invites him to Ukraine
He emphasized that if one strong part falls out of the mechanism (of assistance to Ukraine), the whole mechanism begins to crumble
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called former US President Donald Trump's promise to resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia "within 24 hours" if he takes the presidency again "frightening".
In an interview with the British TV channel Channel 4, Zelenskyy said that Trump could try to fulfill his promise to stop the war within 24 hours without regard to the consequences and without taking into account the conditions insisted on by Kyiv.
At the same time, Zelenskyy said during the interview that he invites Donald Trump to come to Ukraine.
"Donald Trump, I invite you to Ukraine, to Kyiv. If you can stop the war within 24 hours, I think that's enough to come," the Ukrainian president said.
Last year in May, speaking on CNN's Town Hall program, Donald Trump said he was ready to end the war in Ukraine "in 24 hours."
During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly objected to the allocation of new military aid to Ukraine and suggested that Kyiv and Moscow negotiate a peace.
Trump is running for the Republican presidential nomination in the 2024 elections. He has already won the Republican caucuses in Iowa.
In December, Zelenskyy spoke about the danger of changing US policy toward Ukraine.
"If the policy of the next president, no matter who it is, is different, colder or more economical, then I think these signals will have a very strong impact on the course of the war in Ukraine. Because this is how the whole world works. If one strong part falls out, the mechanism begins to crumble," Zelensky said, noting that the United States is currently in first place in the world in terms of providing assistance to Ukraine.
