Russia has started a trade war with Ecuador after it promised to give Ukraine weapons

The Rosselkhoznadzor regulator has asked the Ecuadorian Ministry of Agriculture to suspend the certification of bananas from five Ecuadorian companies from 5 February due to the detection of a dangerous quarantine pest, the polyphagous humpback fly.

Russia will stop exports from the companies: Agzulasa, Don Carlos Fruit, Agroaereo Fruit Export, Asociacion de Produccion Agropecuaria de l'oro Asoproagroro, Comercializadora de Banano.

The decision was made after Ecuador announced that it would transfer Russian-made equipment to the United States. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Ecuador's decision was reckless and the result of pressure from vested interests.

On 31 January, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa said that the country would transfer old Russian military equipment to the US in exchange for new equipment worth $200 million, despite Moscow's objections.

Noboa called the Russian position "not entirely adequate", noting that Ecuador is currently experiencing large-scale unrest. He also noted that the United States will not formally receive military equipment, but "scrap metal" that can be transferred under international agreements. The country has Mi-171E helicopters and Igla MANPADS.
