Russian ambassador to Poland ignores summons to Polish Foreign Ministry after missile incident

Russian Ambassador to Warsaw Sergey Andreev did not appear at a diplomatic summons issued by the Polish Foreign Ministry after a Russian missile allegedly violated Polish airspace over the weekend.

Source. This was reported by the Polish Ministry, BBC reports.

"We are asking whether the ambassador is following the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow and whether he is able to properly represent Russia's interests in Warsaw," said spokesman Pawel Wronski. "A diplomatic note from the Polish Foreign Ministry demanding an explanation for the violation of Polish airspace will be handed over to the Russian Foreign Ministry in another way.

Andreev, for his part, commented: "I believed that there was no point in talking about this topic without presenting evidence, and I refused to visit the Polish Foreign Ministry," he was quoted as saying by the propaganda outlet RIA Novosti.

On Sunday, Polish authorities said that a Russian cruise missile fired at cities in western Ukraine had been in Polish airspace for 39 seconds.

According to Warsaw, the missile was travelling at a speed of almost 800 km/h and was at an altitude of about 400 metres, having managed to fly 2 kilometres deep into Polish territory.

The Polish Ministry of Defence said that it had activated all air defence systems, and the missile could have been shot down "if there were signs that it was heading for a target on Polish territory".

Background. Earlier it was reported that Poland would demand an explanation from Russia for the violation of NATO airspace.
