Iranian authorities warned Moscow of a possible terrorist attack a few days before the attack on Crocus City Hall.

According to one of the sources, Iran's intelligence services received information about the preparation of a terrorist attack in Russia during interrogations of Islamic State militants.

When asked about the warning to Iran, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he was unaware of it.

In January, the Iranian authorities arrested 35 people suspected of involvement in the bombings in the city of Kerman, which killed more than 90 people.

Allegedly, among the arrested was the commander of the Afghan branch of ISIS, Wilayat Khorasan.

According to a second Reuters source, one of the interrogated said that members of Wilayat Khorasan were instructed to prepare for a large-scale operation in Russia and that several militants had travelled to Russia. At the same time, the warning sent to Moscow did not specify the time and place of the attack.

"The Islamic State claimed responsibility for both the January 3 bombings in Kerman and the March 22 attack at the Crocus near Moscow. US intelligence sources reported that the Wilayat Khorasan wing was behind both attacks. Reuters notes that in both cases, Tajik citizens were involved in the attacks.

A source familiar with US intelligence said that the information about the attack being prepared in Russia was obtained from an intercepted conversation between Wilayat Khorasan militants.

The US also warned Moscow about possible terrorist attacks in crowded places. Despite ISIS's statements and intelligence data, Russian authorities claim that Ukraine's special services were behind the attack on Crocus, allegedly training militants in the Middle East and participating in the preparation of the terrorist attack.

The victims of the attack on the Crocus were 144 people. Nine people have been arrested on charges of involvement in the attack, four of whom are called perpetrators and the rest are called accomplices.
