Syrskyi: situation at the frontline has escalated after Russian 'elections'

In recent days, following the so-called presidential elections in Russia, Moscow has intensified its offensive on the Eastern Front, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky said.

"This is facilitated by the warm, dry weather, which has made most of the open areas accessible to tanks. Despite significant losses, the enemy is stepping up its efforts by using new armoured units, which periodically achieves tactical success," he wrote on his telegram channel.

The dry ground allows Russian assault groups, supported by armoured vehicles, to actively attack at the Liman and Bakhmut directions, and attempt to break through the defences at the Pokrovske direction using dozens of tanks and armoured personnel carriers, the chief said.

According to the general, the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine made decisions aimed at strengthening the most problematic defence areas with electronic warfare and air defence equipment. In addition, the stocks of drones of all types, anti-tank missiles have been replenished, and additional reserves of forces and equipment have been moved.

According to Syrskyi, it is possible to defeat a larger enemy and create conditions for seizing the strategic initiative only if there is a technical advantage "in high-tech weapons".
