Half of ballistic missiles fired by Iran at Israel were malfunctioning - WSJ

Approximately 50 per cent of the ballistic missiles fired by Iran at Israel on the night of 14 April either failed to take off or crashed before reaching their targets. The other half were intercepted by Israeli air defence systems.

In total, Iran fired between 115 and 130 ballistic missiles at Israel, the WSJ reports.

Earlier, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said that about 30 cruise missiles and 170 drones were also fired at Israel.

According to him, almost all of them were intercepted before they crossed the Israeli border. The only casualty was a 10-year-old girl wounded by shrapnel. The Nevatim military base also sustained minor damage, with several ballistic missiles falling on its territory that could not be intercepted.

According to CBS News, approximately 70-80 drones were shot down by US aircraft based in Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Two US officials told the TV channel that five Iranian ballistic missiles reached Israel, four of which landed at the Nevatim airbase, where Israeli F-35s are based. The US believes that this base was Iran's main target.

The missiles fell on the runway and empty hangars. Another missile was apparently aimed at radar in northern Israel, but missed.

Iran's attack was a promised response to Israel's 1 April strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, which killed seven officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
