Johnson: US aid bill for Ukraine to be voted on Saturday night

House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced that he will bring up a funding bill for Ukraine on Saturday, 20 April.

Source. This was reported by CNN.

"Speaker Mike Johnson announced on Wednesday that he is sticking to his plan to introduce a series of foreign aid bills, including funding for Ukraine, after facing significant pressure from hardliners," CNN writes.

Johnson said the vote would take place on Saturday evening.

Earlier, Johnson said that he intends to submit separate bills to Congress this week to help Ukraine and Israel.

It was also reported that US President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with four congressional leaders, during which he stressed the "urgent need" for the House of Representatives to pass a bill to help Israel and Ukraine.

In February, the Senate approved a $95 billion emergency spending package, including $60 billion to support Ukraine, as well as funds for Israel, Taiwan, and humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

However, Republicans in the House of Representatives are in favour of dividing aid to Israel, Ukraine and other US allies.

On April 1, Johnson said that the bill to support Ukraine would include "some important innovations", possibly providing aid on credit.

On 15 April, Mike Johnson introduced four separate bills to fund US assistance to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and other national security priorities.

Democrats reportedly do not oppose this proposal, while Trumpists threaten the speaker with resignation.
