Britain delivers record-breaking aid package to Ukraine, including 1,600 missiles
Drones will be purchased from the UK, and air defence equipment will help expand local defence supply chains
The UK government announced on Monday that it will allocate 500 million pounds (approximately $617 million) to help Ukraine and will provide a record-breaking military aid package to the country, including 1,600 missiles.

"The additional funding of £500 million, which will bring the UK's military assistance to Ukraine to £3 billion this financial year, will be used to quickly deliver urgently needed ammunition, air defence systems, drones and engineering support. The drones will be purchased in the UK, and the air defence equipment will contribute to the expansion of domestic defence supply chains," the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
The UK will also send the largest package of equipment, which will include:
- 60 boats, as well as naval guns
- more than 1,600 strike and anti-aircraft missiles, as well as additional long-range precision-guided missiles Storm Shadow
- more than 400 vehicles, including 160 Husky protected vehicles, 162 armoured vehicles and 78 all-terrain vehicles
- more than 4 million rounds of ammunition for small arms
"Defending Ukraine from Russia's brutal ambitions is vital for our security and for the whole of Europe. If Putin is allowed to succeed in this war of aggression, he will not stop at the Polish border," Prime Minister Rishi Sunak commented on the aid package.
"The UK was the first to provide NLAW missiles, the first to provide modern tanks and the first to send long-range missiles," said Defence Secretary Grant Shapps. – "Now we are going even further. We will never allow the world to forget the existential battle that Ukraine is fighting, and with our continued support, it will win," he stressed.
