Russian Foreign Ministry threatens Britain with strikes on its military facilities
British ambassador to Russia expressed "strong protest" and warned of "catastrophic consequences"
The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned the British ambassador after Foreign Secretary David Cameron declared Ukraine's right to strike Russia with British weapons.
Ambassador Nigel Casey was given a "strong protest" and threatened with strikes on British military targets. This is reported in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, The Insider reports.
"Casey was warned that any UK military facilities and equipment in Ukraine and abroad could be targeted in response to Ukrainian strikes using British weapons on Russian territory. The ambassador should have thought about the inevitable catastrophic consequences of such hostile steps by London," the statement said.
David Cameron said in an interview with Reuters that Ukraine could strike with British weapons on Russian territory.
"Ukraine has that right. Russia is striking at Ukrainian territory, and it is understandable that Ukraine feels the need to defend itself," he told the correspondent during his visit to Kyiv.
Cameron met in Kyiv with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian officials and announced new packages of arms and ammunition from Britain, including precision-guided bombs, anti-aircraft missiles and equipment.
