As reported by local authorities, the largest refinery in southern Russia, with a production capacity of about 300,000 barrels per day, caught fire on 12 May as a result of a drone strike.
According to Reuters sources, CDU-1, the refinery's largest unit, which accounts for 43% of the plant's capacity, was damaged.
The Volgograd refinery was also attacked by drones in February this year. At that time, the refinery was repaired in 18 days, Reuters reports.
Kyiv emphasises that the Russian oil refinery facilities are legitimate targets, as they help Russia in its military operations at a time when the Russian army regularly damages Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
In late March, amid drone attacks on Russian oil refineries and tank farms, gasoline production in Russia began to fall, according to Rosstat data.
According to Bloomberg estimates, from 14 to 20 March, the average daily rate of oil refining in Russia fell to the lowest weekly level in 10 months.
