For security reasons, the visit of the German Defence Minister to Odesa remained secret until the end. There he announced a new military aid package to support Ukraine totalling half a billion euros.
‘We will continue to support you in your defence efforts,’ the German defence minister said on Thursday evening at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov.
The latest package of military aid from Germany includes
- a large number of missiles for Iris-T air defence systems,
- drones for reconnaissance and combat operations in the Black Sea
- necessary spare parts for artillery systems supplied by Germany,
- spare engines for Leopard tanks,
- one million rounds of ammunition for small arms, etc.
According to Pistorius, some of these weapons are already ready for shipment.
In 2025, 18 of the latest RCH-155 self-propelled howitzers will also be delivered. In addition, he said, Germany will finance training courses for Ukrainian technicians.
Background. A few days ago, it was reported that Germany was providing Ukraine with another Iris-T air defence system. The system has proven itself to be a good choice for shooting down medium- and short-range targets.
