Times: six F-16s arrived in Ukraine, sent by the Netherlands
Another batch of planes will soon be sent by Denmark, the newspaper claims
The British newspaper The Times has reported that it has additional information about the arrival of Western fighter jets in Ukraine, as reported by Western media the day before.
According to the newspaper, which cites anonymous informed sources, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already received six such aircraft, provided by the Netherlands.
The publication says that another batch of aircraft will soon be sent by Denmark.
According to the Times, over the next year, Ukraine is to receive about 20 F-16 fighters, including from Belgium and Norway.
In the longer term, these four European countries promised to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with about 80 fighters, but many of them will be used for spare parts, the newspaper notes.
The Ukrainian Air Force refused to comment to the Times on the delivery of the six aircraft.
Earlier, the British Daily Telegraph reported that the F-16s had already conducted combat missions in Ukraine and were used for air defence. It is noted that representatives of the Ukrainian Air Force did not deny this.
The publication says that the F-16s will be used for air defence because of the threat posed by Russian anti-aircraft missile systems near the front line.
Background. The day before, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that the first batch of Western F-16 fighters from NATO allies had already arrived in Ukraine.
