Accident in Sumykhimprom raises the level of ammonia in the air, Ministry of Ecology reports
The exact amount of the stored ammonia is yet unknown

What happened. A substantial amount of ammonia has leaked into the air caused by an accident at PJSC Sumykhimprom.
Source. According to the Ukrinform, acting Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets reported the leakage on the telethon air.
Details. The accident is eliminated, but there is no way we could eliminate the amount of leaked ammonia. Unfortunately, it is one of the most hazardous elements that harm nature and people's health, he said.
Mr. Strilets has expressed confidence that the information disseminated by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) on the prevention of ammonia poisoning has saved citizens from its harmful effect. He reminded that to stay healthy, one shall keep their distance from the accident site, use gauze and cotton face masks and go as far below as possible – a basement would be perfect.
The acting minister has stressed that ammonia should not be confused with chlorine. In case of a chlorine leak, it is the other way around, and the recommendation is to ascend as high as possible.
The Head of the Ministry of Ecology has said that the ammonia dispersion rate relies on weather conditions. Hence, predicting when ammonia concentration will be back to normal is impossible. He noted that exactly how much ammonia is left at the plant is unknown, and the relevant authorities are investigating this issue.
Background. A reminder: there has been an ammonia leak at Sumykhimprom chemical plant in the morning.
