Synod of the ROC decided to transfer the Crimean dioceses under the direct control of moscow Patriarch Kirill

What happened? The russian Orthodox Church will transfer the Crimean dioceses under the direct control of moscow Patriarch Kirill.

Source. This is reported by the press service of the russian Orthodox Church (ROC) of the moscow Patriarchate.

Details. It is reported that “it was decided to accept the Dzhankoy, Simferopol and Feodosia dioceses into direct canonical and administrative subordination of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus' and the Holy Synod of the russian Orthodox Church.”

The Synod of the ROC also decided to establish a Crimean Metropolis on the territory of Crimea, consisting of the Dzhankoy, Simferopol and Feodosia dioceses, and to appoint Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopol and Crimea as its head.

It is noted that such decisions were made in response to the appeal of the Crimean metropolitans and given the “need to maintain effective canonical and administrative ties with the central church authorities” due to the “practical impossibility of regular communication between these dioceses and the Kyiv Metropolis.”
