The death of a Briton in captivity was reported as early as July. Then the russians said that he had allegedly died himself, of natural causes. But they did not want to give the body away for a long time, now it became clear why.
Lubinets emphasises that the British Embassy was informed about this murder.
Direct speech. “Missing body parts, numerous cuts and signs of torture: russia returned the body of British volunteer Paul Urey. After more than 1.5 months of negotiations, the russian federation, through pseudo-state entities, the so-called DPR, returned the body of the tortured British volunteer Paul Urey, who was illegally held hostage in the temporarily occupied Donetsk from April to July 2022.
In July 2022, we saw statements by russian propagandists about the death of Paul Urey ‘due to illness and stress’, and today, on September 7, 2022, we received his mutilated body.
The final cause of Paul Urey's death is to be confirmed by the medical forensic examination, all the necessary reports have been made, and the Embassy of Great Britain in Ukraine has also been duly informed,” he wrote.
Lubinets notes that the killing of volunteer Paul Urey by torturing him is a war crime, which will become another piece of evidence during the tribunal against the russian political and military leadership.
The ombudsman recalls that the British Paul Urey and Dylan Healy were captured by the russian military at the end of April 2022 near Dniprorudne town in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, when they were doing their work as volunteers involved in the evacuation of exclusively civilians from the zone of active action.
Dylan Healy has not been released yet and is “accused” by the so-called “DPR” of being a mercenary along with four other foreigners – Andrew Hill and John Harding from Great Britain, Vjekoslav Prebeg from Croatia, and Matthias Gustavsson from Sweden.
