What happened? President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Verkhovna Rada with a speech related to the internal and external situation of the country.

Details. “Today, the Parliament gathered for its last meeting of the year. At the meeting, we heard the President's address to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the internal and external situation of Ukraine,” he said. In addition to the Head of State, the meeting was attended by the full government, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny, foreign diplomats, military, and family members of the fallen heroes.
Mr. Zhelezniak cited brief theses of the President's speech.
“Ukraine has become one of the leaders of the free world. For many, it is a pride to have friends among Ukrainians. We helped the West to find itself again and feel how much the West prevails. No one there is afraid of russia anymore. It was Ukraine that united the EU,” the MP quoted the President's words.
President Zelensky promised that the Ukrainian military-industrial complex would be one of the most progressive. He stated the need for new security guarantees, reform of international organisations, “which guarantee peace, but in fact are unable to do it”.
In addition, the President promised that Ukraine would become a leader in building green energy facilities, as well as that Kyiv would develop its own nuclear generation.
Mr. Zelensky assured that the country would get through the current heating season and that “russian strikes with Shahed drones” would not prevent this.
The President made a promise that the number of Starlink terminals would reach 30,000, promised to complete the total digitalisation of all public services, and assured that Ukraine would develop relations with the countries of Africa and the South for the sake of food security.
He informed that 1.2 trillion UAH had been allocated for defence this year and stated the necessity of improving the tax system.
The guarantor also announced the key goal – to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine and liberate all those who are currently in captivity. According to him, 1456 Ukrainians have already been returned to the controlled territory since the beginning of the war. Besides, he emphasised, there must be an international tribunal over the occupiers for war crimes. The President also made a number of other wishes and promises.
