Ukrtransgaz is preparing the largest reconstruction of the main gas pipeline in Western Ukraine in 50 years

What happened? Ukrtransgaz is renovating the main gas pipeline, which will make it possible to choose and implement technological modes of operation of western Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities in a new format. The company calls the repair work on the pipeline the largest in more than half a century of gas pipeline operation.

Details. "Ukrtransgaz has already dismantled almost 11 km of the gas pipeline, cleaned the pipes from outdated insulation, carried out visual-optical and instrumentation control of the gas pipeline and re-installed more than 6 km of the restored pipes.
In addition, work on the above-ground sections of the pipeline that pass through natural obstacles is underway. They are also renewing the anti-corrosion coating, repairing connections, and installing an additional crane unit at one of the GTS sections. The works are scheduled to be completed in June 2023.
What does it mean? "The upgraded gas pipeline will make it possible to maximise the efficiency of the neighboring UGS facility, which is directly involved in international fuel supplies and storage of gas from foreign traders in the 'customs warehouse' mode," the company explains.
