"85% hit rate": Germany tells how Ukrainians trained on Leopards

The Ukrainian military has almost completed training on Leopard 2 battle tanks in Munster, Germany, according to a spokesman for the Bundeswehr Special Training Command.

The spokesman noted that the Ukrainian military were "highly motivated" and used the five-week training "more than effectively."

According to him, over the past five weeks, soldiers have been training 12-14 hours a day, six days a week. The spokesman said that they have been trained as drivers, shooters, technicians, commanders and support staff.

The soldiers were first trained to perform maneuvers on the tank. According to the Ukrainian military, driving Leopard 2 tanks is like "driving a Mercedes," the spokesman quoted them as saying.

On Monday, the soldiers completed their last firing training session, and the training reached 82-85% accuracy in combat conditions.

"This is a super result," the spokesman said, adding that shooting on the simulator has significantly increased the progress of the soldiers.

The spokesperson added that the Bundeswehr Special Training Command has taken the training up to the tactical level, based on the experience of the war. He said that the instructors were also highly motivated because they knew "what they were preparing the soldiers for."

The Bundeswehr's Special Training Command Group aims to train 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers in 2023 after training 1,100 in 2022.
