Xi Jinping says he will prepare China for war

Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that the country is preparing for war and urged his generals to "dare to fight."

Source. This was reported by Foreign Affairs with reference to four speeches by Xi at the annual National People's Congress.

"In the coming period, the risks and challenges we face will become more and more serious," he warned in one of his speeches and instructed to prepare the industrial base for a possible military conflict.

He also openly criticized the United States for the first time.

"Western countries, led by the United States, have carried out containment, encirclement, and suppression against us, which has brought unprecedented challenges to our country's development," Xi said.

According to him, it is necessary to overcome technological dependence on industrialized democracies.

Separately, he called for strengthening national defense and uniting society around the People's Liberation Army (PLA), inspired by the Double Support Movement, a 1943 Communist campaign to militarize society in the Yan'an area.

Xi Jinping also hinted at the seizure of Taiwan, noting that the essence of all these preparations is the future "unification of the motherland."

Before the parliamentary session, the Communist Party of China published an article entitled "Under the leadership of Xi Jinping, who thinks about strengthening the army, we will move forward victoriously". The author of the article was identified as "Jun Zheng," which in Chinese sounds similar to "military government."

The text called for accelerating the modernization of the national armed forces at the expense of private companies.

Last fall, Xi Jinping also gave a speech in which he hinted at a future war.

"In the face of wars that may be imposed on us, we must speak to our enemies in a language they understand and use victory to win peace and respect. In the new era, the PLA insists on using military force to end hostilities," Xi Jinping said.

After that, in December, China passed a law allowing the army to open new military commissariats and assembly points in order to "use its reserve forces and activate the system of replenishment of combat units in case of war" as soon as possible. In addition, national defense mobilization centers began to open across the country.

In February, the highest advisory body of the National People's Congress adopted amendments to legislation that could be used against those who oppose the takeover of Taiwan in the event of war.

These amendments will also allow Beijing to assert its jurisdiction over occupied Taiwan.

Background. Earlier it was reported that Macron and von der Leyen will travel to China together in early April to talk about Ukraine – they will try to convince Xi Jinping to join the "European position".
