Polish Foreign Ministry accuses Germany of delaying Ukraine's accession to NATO

Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk believes that if Germany had not blocked Ukraine's accession to NATO, the current war would not have happened.
He made this statement after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that it was impossible to quickly resolve the issue of Ukraine's membership in the Alliance, RFI reports.

In his opinion, it is impossible to seriously discuss this issue now, when there is a war.
"The door is open a little bit, but now is not the time to resolve this issue," Pistorius added.
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted critically to this statement.
"If Germany did not think the way it does now, if it did not try to delay Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance, if many years ago in Munich Ukraine had been offered to join the Alliance, there would be no war in Ukraine today," said Piotr Wawrzyk.
The representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry also noted that Western European countries, France and Germany, have always been against Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO. And Pistorius' position may indeed have a negative impact on the process of Ukraine's accession to the Alliance, as the unanimity of all NATO members is important.
The Polish deputy foreign minister emphasized that official Warsaw supports Ukraine's accession to NATO and is confident that it should happen as soon as possible.
Background. As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has accepted an invitation to attend the NATO summit to be held in July in Vilnius, Lithuania. During the meeting, the leaders will discuss, among other things, Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.
