EU plans to impose sanctions on 23 russians for abducting children from Ukraine to russia

Sanctions are to be imposed on 23 people responsible for the abduction of Ukrainian children and their trafficking deep into russia. This is the 11th sanctions package of the European Union.

Poland is preparing a joint initiative with the European Commission on the case of abducted Ukrainian children, including those forcibly adopted in russia.
Sanctions are to be imposed against representatives of the authorities of russian regions, including Stavropol Krai, Kaluga, Belgorod and Voronezh regions, Tatarstan and Chechnya.
The proposed list also includes representatives of the foundation responsible for the forced removal of children from the occupied Donbas and employees of the russian Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, who was accused of war crimes by the International Criminal Court in The Hague and issued an arrest warrant.
According to estimates, the russians have illegally taken more than 16,000 children from Ukraine.
Poland is cooperating with the European Commission in this case, and details of the joint initiative are to be announced soon. The task of the Polish experts will be to help identify the abducted children, whose names and birth documents have been changed by the russians.
