Philips continues to do business in russia and supplies equipment for hospitals
The company claims that it does not make a profit in russia, but does so as a matter of conscience
Philips will continue to supply hospital equipment in russia despite the war with Ukraine, Reuters reports.
"The right to healthcare is universal, and we are part of the system that provides healthcare," said Roy Jacob, CEO of the company, at the company's annual shareholders' meeting in Amsterdam, adding that the company does so "in russia as well as in Ukraine."
According to Jacobs, Philips' activities in russia are focused on servicing and supplying hospital equipment, such as large medical scanners.
The company has stopped selling personal care products, except for maternity care products.
The russian operations are not profitable, he added.
Last year, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba included Philips in a group of 50 large international companies that he accused of making "bloody profits" by continuing to operate in russia.
"International companies that continue to operate in russia are directly financing russia's war crimes," Kuleba said in a tweet in November 2022.
