The military-industrial concerns of Ukraine and Germany, Ukroboronprom and Rheinmetall, signed an agreement on strategic partnership and the establishment of a joint venture in Ukraine on Wednesday.

Source. This was reported by Ukroboronprom on its Facebook page.

The creation of the joint venture, which will repair Leopard tanks and eventually produce them, was announced by the head of the German concern, Armin Papperger, a few days ago.

The Ukrainian concern reports that the joint venture is scheduled to start operating in mid-July.

"Meeting the urgent needs of Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and democracy as soon as possible is of utmost importance to us. Thanks to its experience and capabilities, Rheinmetall is well positioned to be a valuable and powerful partner for Ukraine in both the short and long term. In turn, Ukroboronprom, headed by Yuriy Husev, is a very reliable partner for us," Armin Papperger emphasized.

According to the agreement, the basis and first step for cooperation is the maintenance and repair of armored vehicles transferred to Ukraine. In the future, the partners intend to jointly produce Rheinmetall products in Ukraine and jointly develop promising models of weapons and military equipment on the basis of a newly created joint venture with the participation of Ukrainian and German specialists, the statement said.

Background. As reported, German Rheinmetall said it would produce 600,000 shells a year for Ukraine.
