The shores of the Kakhovka Reservoir will be unfit for all life for decades to come – Ministry of Environment
Coastal areas will transform into salt marshes

Due to the undermining of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, the water level in the reservoir within the territory of the Kamyanska Sich National Park has dropped by 4 meters and continues to fall. This can lead to the irreversible loss of entire ecosystems of plant and animal life. The shores of the reservoir will be unfit for all life for decades to come.
This was reported by Minister Ruslan Strilets.

According to him, coastal areas will turn into salt marshes.
"Over 19 species of Red Book plants, dozens of species of waterfowl protected by the Bern Convention, will disappear forever from these places. What could not be destroyed in eight months of occupation of the park on land, the saboteurs destroyed by undermining the power station.
In addition, we may lose a historical place where the Cossack Kamyanska Sich was located in 1709-1711 and 1730-1734. Today, a branch of the Khortytsia national reserve operates here," Strilets noted.
The head of the Ministry of Environment reported that despite such difficult conditions, the team of conservationists continues to record damage and calculate losses from the actions of russian terrorists.
Background. Due to the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant by the occupiers, Ukraine may lose millions of tonnes of crops. In addition to this, flooded regions will require a comprehensive agro-ecological assessment of soils after the water recedes.
Over 100,000 tonnes of crops have been lost on the right bank. At the same time, it is difficult to determine losses on the left bank as yet, but it is known that several hundred thousand tonnes have been saved.
