Fogh Rasmussen: NATO may deploy its troops in Ukraine

According to the British newspaper The Guardian, former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that NATO could send troops to Ukraine.

According to him, if Kyiv does not receive guarantees of NATO membership at the Vilnius summit, a group of countries may want to deploy troops in Ukraine.

He suggested that Poland and the Baltic states are seriously considering creating a kind of coalition of those willing to do so if Ukraine does not receive guarantees in Vilnius.

At the same time, the former NATO Secretary General believes that it would be quite legitimate for Ukraine to ask for such military assistance.

For his part, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with the Italian Corriere della Sera that we should prepare for the fact that it will take a long time to help Ukraine.

The German Prime Minister noted that in the post-war situation, Ukraine will need concrete and reliable commitments from its partners and allies to strengthen its security.

"We are determined to support it on its way to EU membership," Scholz said.

Background. Meanwhile, Scholz recently said that he could resume contacts with Putin "in due course."
