Vodafone Ukraine leaves the UN Global Compact network in protest
The organization that declares these high principles has failed to implement them, the company emphasized
Vodafone Ukraine considers it right to withdraw from the UN Global Compact network in protest against the inaction and double standards of the UN towards Ukraine and Ukrainians.
This is stated in the company's press release.
The UN's calls for development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals primarily involve basic security issues: security for life, environmental security, energy security, and health security. All of these basic principles have been completely destroyed in Ukraine today, and millions of people are suffering because of it.
And the organization that declares these high principles has failed to implement them in the situation with Ukraine, Vodafone noted.
"Unfortunately, during the war, we have seen many examples of the UN's short-sightedness in relation to the problems of Ukrainians. We are outraged by the inaction and unwillingness to call a spade a spade at a time when Ukrainians have been resisting russian aggression for 15 months, which has been committing war crimes, economic and environmental crimes and terrorizing civilians," the company said in a statement.
"We clearly understand that the development of the Global Compact platform does not seem possible until the basic principles of security are restored in Ukraine. And we do not consider it possible to remain among the initiatives of an organization that does not demonstrate proper responsibility and avoids using its levers of influence for sustainable development. We will be ready to reconsider our decision if the situation changes," the company emphasized.
Vodafone has called on other Ukrainian companies that are members of the UN Global Compact to temporarily withdraw from the platform to protest the inaction on the situation in Ukraine.
