Automatic systems have registered over 17,000 fines for lorry overloading
Most fines were issued to lorry owners in December 2021 and January 2022
17,800 fines for exceeding load norms were issued in Ukraine from 1 October 2021 to 1 May 2023. The total amount of penalties for overloading stands at 355.6 million UAH.
This was reported by the press service of Opendatabot, citing data from Ukrtransbezpeka.
The majority of fines were handed to lorry owners in December 2021 and January 2022, amounting to 3.9 thousand with a sum of 96.3 million UAH, and 3.7 thousand with a sum of 93.4 million UAH, respectively.
From the start of the full-scale invasion from March to July of the previous year, such violations were not recorded in Ukraine. Fines resumed in July 2022, with 188 cases of overloading, amounting to slightly more than 3 million UAH. This is the smallest indicator in almost three years.
Towards the end of 2022, the number of violations began to increase, but it has not yet reached the levels before the large-scale invasion. From January to April of this year, 4.6 thousand such violations were recorded on Ukraine's roads, totalling more than 78 million UAH. For comparison, this is even less than before the start of the full-scale war in January 2022 when 93.4 million UAH in fines were paid for overloading.
In 2023, the number of detected violations continues to grow. According to Ukrtransbezpeka, over one week of June alone, 470 fines were issued for a total of 6,672,500 UAH. This is more than, for example, over the entire September of 2022.
Background. Recall that Ukrtransbezpeka began recording violations for exceeding load norms on 1 October 2021. Such processes are carried out automatically using almost fifty Weigh-in-Motion systems. This is a system of sensors that, on the move, read the weight, dimensions, and number plate of the vehicle and transmit the information to a special database.
