The Netherlands plans to provide Ukraine with the first F-16s in 2024

The first batch of F-16 fighter jets is planned to be delivered to Ukraine in 2024, Dutch Defense Minister Keesa Ollongren has said.

In an interview with MSNBC, she explained that the transfer becomes possible as the country's air force transitions to more modern F-35 fighters – the same is true for Norway and Denmark, she said.

The exact timing of the delivery will depend on the pace of training for Ukrainian pilots, which should take six to eight months, the minister said, which is shorter than the training time for Dutch pilots.

Ollongren said that the process of equipping a flight training center in Romania is underway, which should be put into operation in the near future, after which the pilots will be able to start training.

In addition, according to the TV channel, next month the United States is also expected to start training Ukrainian pilots at its training center in Arizona.

According to Ollongren, the delivery of F-16s to Ukraine will send a powerful signal, not only to Ukraine, but also to Moscow and the Kremlin.

Background. It was also reported that Belgium will provide F-16s for training Ukrainian pilots.
